Manchester City have made their inaugural summer acquisition by securing the services of Girona’s emerging Brazilian talent, Savio, as per insider reports. With Liverpool and Arsenal providing stiff competition in this season’s Premier League title race, City is eager to reinforce their squad for the upcoming campaign.
While the club’s past approach might have involved lavish spending, they are now mindful of Financial Fair Play regulations, opting for more astute signings in the transfer market. Savio emerges as a promising prospect fitting this new strategy, showcasing his potential during a breakthrough season in La Liga. The 19-year-old winger impressed with eight goals and seven assists in 28 appearances following his loan stint from Troyes.
Reports from Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke indicate that Manchester City has reached an agreement to secure Savio’s services for the next season. Although formal confirmation is pending, sources suggest that a comprehensive deal is in place for the Brazilian winger’s transfer.
While specifics regarding the transfer fee remain undisclosed, Savio holds an estimated value of €25.4 million according to Footballwave’s proprietary algorithm. Given the affiliations between Savio’s parent club, Troyes, and Girona, both of which are part of the City Group, a bidding war for his signature is unlikely to occur.
Primarily operating as a left winger, Savio’s arrival is poised to increase competition within the squad, particularly for players like Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku. Grealish, one of the most expensive English players in Premier League history, may face the prospect of dropping down the pecking order with Savio’s inclusion.
In addition to Savio, Manchester City has also completed another transfer this week, securing the services of 15-year-old Cardiff City prospect Timeo Whisker. Whisker is set to feature initially for the club’s youth teams, further bolstering City’s long-term prospects.
