An important injury setback has been given to Pep Guardiola before of Manchester City’s match against Arsenal following the international break. On March 31, the treble champions will play the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium as both teams gain ground in the Premier League title contest.
Ezri Konsa took Kyle Walker’s position shortly after the England team’s Saturday night match versus Brazil began at Wembley Stadium. The Manchester City defender appeared to have a hamstring injury, and as soon as he was carted off the pitch, he headed directly for the dressing room.
Walker’s problem may not be as serious as it seems, but it would be devastating if he couldn’t play for Guardiola’s team the following week. This season, the 33-year-old has made 26 appearances in the Premier League, aiding Manchester City in their pursuit of another championship.
Walker’s departure from Etihad Stadium during the summer transfer window was strongly rumoured. He signed a new long-term contract in September that will keep him with the team until 2026, despite rumours about his future.
Soon after the news, Guardiola called him a “unique” and “incomparable” athlete in an interview with TNT Sports. “As a football player, [he] has a genetic [quality that] is incomparable, physicalities, something unique,” the Spaniard remarked.
“The personality comes next. People listen to him when he talks to his friends, and I believe that he is now developing into a more mature player both on and off the ball.”
“Losing him as a player would have been a big, big blow,” Guardiola continued. It’s crucial that it didn’t occur, fortunately. We’ve known each other for seven years, making eye contact. Additionally, he is a unique player who cannot be replaced. He will stay there for a very long time if he stays focused.”
Walker has been an integral part of Guardiola’s success at Manchester City for a number of years. He has won the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, FA Cup, four League Cups, and five Premier League crowns. Having made almost 300 appearances for the team, the England international is a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
