According to a report, PSG may consider swapping Xavi Simons for Bernardo Silva. The Netherlands international has emerged as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is reportedly bound for Real Madrid. Simons has impressed with his performances on loan at RB Leipzig, positioning himself as a significant asset for PSG in the upcoming season.
PSG exercised their remarkably inexpensive €4 million buy-back clause in Simons’ contract with PSV last summer. Since then, the 20-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising talents in the Bundesliga. However, due to his relatively low acquisition cost and the emergence of Bradley Barcola, PSG might be inclined to cash in on Simons.
Should PSG decide to put Simons up for sale, numerous clubs would vie for his services. RB Leipzig is eager to retain the Dutch midfielder, while Arsenal has been monitoring him for some time. Pep Guardiola is also rumored to admire Simons, raising the possibility of Manchester City securing his signature.
Journalist Rudy Galetti suggests that PSG could use Simons as a bargaining chip in their pursuit of Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder has long been a target for the Parisians, and they are reportedly keen to renew their efforts to sign him in the summer transfer window.
Galetti, writing for CaughtOffside, suggests that PSG may propose Simons as part of the deal to entice City into parting with Silva. City, however, are likely to be reluctant to let go of Silva, whom they view as a potential successor to Kevin de Bruyne. Silva has hinted at a desire for a new challenge, and reports suggest he has a release clause of €58 million in his contract. Barcelona has also expressed interest in Silva, but their financial constraints make a deal unlikely.
